Wale Olasoji answering a question on Sustaining the culture of Excellence at Bells University of Technology

Wale Olasoji on Sustaining a Culture of Excellence at Bells University

The Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria invited me recently to deliver a lecture. The event was the Bursary Annual Lecture series themed, “Sustaining the Culture of Excellence.” Mrs. Akinyemi Yewande, the chairperson of the Local organizing committee was on top of all arrangements. Logistics was seamless.

In attendance was the top brass of the University. The Deputy Vice-chancellor, Professor Mrs. Kuforiji received me on my arrival. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeremiah Ojediran later joined us. The Registrar, the Bursar, the Librarian, everyone was around. It was a great time as I shared on the subject of excellence.

I explained that an appreciation of the value excellence brings to an organization is key in the entire process of establishing a culture of excellence. Interestingly, not every organization appreciates the value of excellence. It is only after the establishment of the culture of excellence that sustainability of the same can be on the table for discussion. So the sequence is

  • Appreciate excellence
  • Desire excellence
  • Establish a culture of excellence
  • Sustain the culture of excellence

“The corporate culture of an organization represents the values and norms that the organization holds dear as a critical part of its corporate existence.” – Wale Olasoji

With the establishment of the culture of excellence in place, the definition of metrics for measurement must follow.

“How often you leave your customer satisfied is the true measure of your excellence.” – Wale Olasoji

I encouraged them not to compromise excellence as they strive to satisfy their customers.

I also reminded them that when a corporate culture of excellence is built, organizational capacity is enabled and a structure that empowers, focuses and engages employees is established.

“Success is not yet attained until it can be sustained. A sustainable culture of excellence is the key to true success.” – Wale Olasoji

Thisday Newspaper Nigeria reported the story.

The photos below complete the story.

Overall, it was a good experience as Mr. Sina Adepoju, the bursar of the school made my stay comfortable. Thank you Bells University for hosting me.
